TiN/ Ti film was sprayed on 304 stainless steel substrate by vacuum ion plating,the film thickness is 3 μm. The basic mechanical properties of coating were analyzed by hardness tester, three-dimensional topography tester and scratch tester. The friction and wear properties of the coated samples were analyzed by a ball-disc tester,and the effect of TiN/ Ti coating on the wear resistance and friction reduction properties of the substrate surface was studied according to the test results of the bump foil bearing performance test bench. The results show that the hardness of TiN/ Ti coating can reach HV1 500,which is 5. 5 times of that of base material. The average friction coefficient of TiN/ Ti coating is 0. 23,which is 68% lower than that of base material,and its wear loss is only 18. 75% of that of base material. The maximum friction mo- ment of GCr15 against PTFE is 2. 4 N·mm,while that of TiN/ Ti is only 1 N·mm,only 41. 7% of GCr15. TiN/ Ti coating exhibits excellent load-carrying capacity,properties of wear resistance and friction reduction.
